Proposed cell phone tax would benefit 911

Clarke County E-911 director Becky Neugent told board members that House Bill 590 would be going to the Alabama Legislature's regular session that starts in March.

The bill, if passed, would add a 911 rate of 70 cents per month to prepaid cellular phones and also add the rate to phones that are activated out of state, but the bill is paid within the state.
