C h a n c e B a p t i s t Church has begun "phase 2" of their remodeling project with work having started on the construction of the new kitchen and f e l l owship hall.

Everyone is excited at the prospect of having and using the new facility and continue to be thankful for all the donations received in the various fundraising activities.

Fellowship Baptist Church is also progressing in its remodeling project. They have enlarged their sanctuary and have made some other improvements. They too are enjoying the changes being made at their church.

Happy Birthday! Greetings are extended to the following community members who will celebrate their birthday during the month of February: Renae Dubose-2/23, Kathy Mitchell- 2/14, Stacey Morrisette-2/12, Lester Welch-2/13, Mary Westry-2/20, Elder Norman Ray Dukes-2/20, Patricia Bettis-2/2, Barbara Chapman-2/14, Lincoln Welch-2/22, Lewis Holt-2/10.

Condolences are extended to the families of the two young men (one a Packers Bend native) who were killed recently in an automobile accident. Warne Johnson, 21, of Packers Bend died in the accident. He was the son of Wallace and Rosetta Johnson and the grandson of Mrs. Nellie Carstarphen and Mrs. Johnson.

Kendrick Davis was also killed in the accident. He was a native of Grove Hill. Kendrick, 20, was the son of Ms. Rochelle Davis. Both funerals were held this past Saturday at their respective churches.

Regina Kidd of Chance and her sister, LaKeshia Kidd of Birmingham traveled to Oakland, Calif. recently for the funeral of Packers Bend native, Mary Montgomery Hadley. Ms. Hadley was the daughter of the late Willie Mae and Horace Montgomery. She leaves a daughter, Emma Jean Kidd and two brothers, Horace and Marvin.

Mary Montgomery attended church and was baptized at the Independent Baptist Church of Packers Bend under the leadership of Rev. N.P. Smith. She also attended the Lower Peach Tree schools.

While in Oakland Regina and LaKeshia enjoyed some sightseeing and shopping at the malls. They also enjoyed spending time with family, their sister, Emma and with Willie Gene and Gloria Edwards, who have roots in Chance. Even though the trip was relatively short and the purpose of the trip sad, they did enjoy themselves and look forward to visiting again soon.

Please continue to pray for family and community members who are recovering from recent illness: Carl Chapman, Dot Dotson, Nellie Galamb, Dorothy Carlton, Evelean Taite, Mamie Westry, Grace Haskew, Maxie Taite, Monroe Kidd, David Johns, Loretta Harper, J.D. Morrissette, James McCaskill, Ella Mae Pugh, Anniece Welch, Alijay McCaskill, Henry Lee Dotson, Barbara Garrick, Retha Marshall and Eloise Bumpers.
