Truck spill a big mess
"black liquor" overturned and ruptured in an accident on Highway 43 in Antioch near Ralph Clayton's shop last Thursday afternoon. Boise's Hazmat Team is shown making an earthen dam to contain the spillage. Neither the truck driver, David Smith of Jackson, nor the driver of the SUV that it struck, Leslie Lewis of Leroy, was hurt. But it took hours to clean up the spill and lots of manpower was involved because of utility lines where the truck overturned. Responding and helping, in addition to the Boise crew, were Antioch and Salitpa firefighters, Clarke County EMA, Clarke-Mobile Gas, McVay Water System, U.S. Environmental Services, Pitt and Sons Wrecker, Ergon Trucking, Southwest Alabama Construction, Jackson Police, Clarke County Sheriff's Department and Alabama State Troopers.
