Chatmon

Lessie Mae Chatmon, 74, of Mobile died Feb. 7, 2007 at her residence.

She was born Dec. 16, 1932. She was a native of Avery, Miss. and former resident of Jackson. She was the only child born to the parentage of Willie and Margurette Brown Chatmon. She was a lifelong member of St. Union Baptist Church of Jackson where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She graduated from Hopson State Technical College in Thomasville. She received her degree as an LPN. She retired from Jackson Hospital, now known as Jackson Medical Center.

Survivors include five sons, Terry Lee (Denise) Chatmon, Clayton Lee Chatmon, all of Mobile, Anthony James Chatmon, Columbus, Ga., Thomas Johnny (Verlesa) Chatmon, Los Angeles, Calif., James Jerome (Kathy) Chatmon, Thomasville, Ga.; five daughters, Carla (Richard) Young, Gulfport, Miss., Elouise Chatmon, Shelia Marie (Anthony) Parham, all of Los Angeles, Calif., Sharon Ann (Curtis) Jones, Anniston, Yolanda Faye (Patrick) Turner, Mobile; 43 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Lorena Bettis and one uncle, Dewey Johnson, both of Jackson a host of other relatives.

The service was Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at St. Union Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson with Rev. J.M. Howard, pastor and eulogist. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
