CCHS teams advance to sub-state playoffs

The Clarke County High School Bulldogs beat the Leopards of Mobile Christian 62-48 Monday night in Mobile to win the Class 3A, Area 1 tournament and earn the right to host in the sub-state round this Friday.

Tourney MVP Ben Burroughs led CCHS 23 points and seven rebounds. Deforest Taite added 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Dewayne Owens and Justin Burroughs each had nine points. Kenneth Kimbrough had six points and seven rebounds. Ronnie Osborne added nine rebounds.

Last Friday night the Bulldogs sent Washington County packing as they won 71-66 in Mobile.

Taite led the way with 22 points, four assists and three rebounds. Kimbrough had 21 points and 10 rebounds. B. Burroughs had 15 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. J. Burroughs had five points and seven rebounds.

Kimbrough and Taite were named to the all-tournament team.

The Bulldogs (24-5) will now host Straughn High School this Friday night. The winner of that game advances to Troy University's Sartain Hall and the South Regional Tournament.

Lady Bulldogs fall in tourney final

The Lady Bulldogs were tripped up in the Class 3A, Area 1 championship game by Washington County 57-36 last Saturday night in Grove Hill.

NaKeshia Coats led CCHS with nine points and six rebounds. Stephanie Robinson added eight points and nine rebounds. Erica Moore had seven points and four steals. Kiara Gildersleeve and Ebony Hughes each had four points.

Minetre Martin, Coats and Hughes were named to the alltournament team.

This Thursday the Lady Bulldogs (15-8) can keep their season alive with a win at Calhoun High School in Letohatchee.

The winner of that game advances to the South Regional in Troy at Troy University.
