Mom upset that man only indicted for misdemeanor in sexual abuse case

A mother is upset that a man accused of sexually molesting her two daughters was only indicted for a misdemeanor.

The Clarke County Grand Jury recently indicted Michael Wilson, 35, of Thomasville on one count of sexual abuse, second degree, which is a misdemeanor.

However, the mother- who is not being identified so as to protect the identities of the children, a 12-year-old and a 14- year-old- said both children were abused although contact was greater with one than the other. "The intent [to molest] was there," she protested.

Contact was made through the children's clothing as Wilson rode a four-wheeler with the girls. Wilson was a friend of the girls' father.

Clarke County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Ron Baggett said there is a thin line between first degree abuse and second degree abuse but said grand jurors had to make the distinction. He said he understood why the mother is upset.

The mother said she understood that the law has to be followed but said that she wanted people to know the details.
