Kennedy retiring from Georgia Power Carolyn Kennedy, Environmental Services Manager for Transmission and Distribution, has decided to retire from Georgia Power effective March 2. Carolyn's career has spanned 29 years with Southern Company. She began her career with Georgia Power in 1977 in the chemistry lab and was later promoted to Chemistry Lab Supervisor. Afterwards, she transferred to the environmental auditing group where she performed internal environmental audits. Prior to her present position, she coordinated remediation projects and managed waste disposal for Georgia Power. Currently, Carolyn is responsible for the oversight of the environmental and occupational health compliance activities at Georgia Power's facilities, including transmission, distribution and fleet operations. She is actively involved in external organizations and in the community. She is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and has served in every officer position in the Georgia Chapter of CHMM. In addition, Carolyn chaired the volunteer coalition that led to the City of Decatur's and DeKalb County's adoption of new indoor air regulations and the elimination of smoking in enclosed public spaces prior to the implementation of the state law. She also chaired the board of Keep DeKalb beautiful, and she is presently representing Georgia Power on the board of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. Carolyn models the company's motto of being a "Citizen Wherever We Serve." Carolyn received a B.S. degree in Laboratory Technology from Auburn University in 1976 and an M.B.A. in Management from Georgia State University in 1985. She is the small business owner of Maid Brigade of Atlanta, and she plans to grow her business when she is not riding her bike, traveling, or reading.
She is the daughter of Susie Kimbrough Kennedy of Chance and the late Edd Kennedy Jr.
