Suspect swallows apparent cocaine to keep from law Two men are facing drug charges following a sting at the old Creeper's club in the Depot area of Jackson, Feb. 15, despite the efforts of both suspects to swallow all of the illegal drugs in their possession. While one of the suspects managed to swallow one bag of crack cocaine before police could confiscate it, the other suspect was not so lucky. According to Jackson Police Officer Ben Marshall, numerous complaints had been received by the department concerning illegal drugs being sold at the location. Around 7:40 p.m., officers observed an older model Buick, occuppied by two black males, parked where the club formerly operated. "As we approached the vehicle, the driver, Gabriel Bernard, was observed eating what was believed to be crack cocaine," said Marshall. "After taking control of Bernard and the other occupant of the vehicle, Anthony Yelder, we retrieved approximately 6.7 grams of crack cocaine from the second suspect's mouth." Both men were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bernard had recently been parolled after serving time for distribution of a controlled substance.
Participating in the sting operation, which was a joint effort between three law enforcement agencies, were Sgt. Josh Garrett, Task Force One Commander Mike Hunt, agents Lem DuBose and Charles Tubberville, and Alabama Beverage Control Officer Brad Watson.
