HIV group meeting

The Public Health Area 9 HIV Prevention Community Network Group will have its monthly meeting on Friday, March 2 at the Monroe County Health Department at 11 a.m. This is a change from the regular meeting date. Persons interested in planning, promoting, and implementing HIV prevention activities are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Maureen Nichols at (251) 275-7108.

Black History

The Promise Theater and Performing Arts Center's fundraising benefit will be a Black History and Women's History Month celebration

Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Locke Theater in Jackson. Arts Center and friends enjoy a night of live entertainment and desserts for a suggested donation of $20. For more information contact 251-246-2986.

TCDC career

luncheon

The Toddtown Community Development Center (TCDC) will be having its Sixth Annual Career Luncheon for the participants of the Debutante Cotillion and Beautillion and their guests. The luncheon will be Saturday, March 3 at the Jackson Steakhouse and Seafood Restaurant and will begin promptly at noon. The speaker for the program will be Dr. Ozelle Hubert. Tickets for the Debutante Cotillion and Beautillion that will be held on March 17 at 7 p.m. will also go on sale March 3 for $10 each. The event will be at the H.W. Pearce Assembly House in Jackson.

C'ville RSVP to meet

The Coffeeville RSVP will meet at the Nutrition Center Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

CAC dinner

and auction

The Regional Child Advocacy Center, Inc. will be holding a dinner and auction on Tuesday, March 6 at The Fish House in Jackson. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be items for a silent auction, a live auction and door prizes, and the admission price of $25 includes both auctions and a shrimp and steak dinner. All proceeds will benefit the two programs under this non-profit agency, the Child Advocacy Center and Almost Home. Newborns set

A Secret Safe Place for Newborns will be holding an action this year for its second annual fundraiser. Items for the auction are now being collected. You or your business may donate to this cause, and take advantage of tax savings as all donations are tax-deductible. Donated items can be picked up or dropped off no later than

All kinds of items are needed: gift certificates to local merchants, hunting packages, new furniture, tickets to UA or AU football games, vacation packages, dinners for two, jewelry, items for kids, cell phone service or equipment, free personal tax filing, Easter items, artwork, outdoor decor or services and other valuable items. Please mark your calendars, March 8 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Chatom Community Center.

Fish fry for Relay

Grove Hill Fire and Rescue are taking orders for fish plates. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Plates will include fish, coleslaw, hushpuppie, baked beans, cake. Cost for the plates are $7. Anyone wishing to place orders may contact Wylynn Dunegan at 251-275-3269 or Angie Jordan at 251-275-3335. Plates will be sold Saturday, March 10 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Grove Hill Fire Station.

Landowner tour

The Alabama Treasure Forest Association and the Clarke County Forestry Planning Committee are hosting a Landowner Tour Saturday, March 10 north of Jackson. Topics covered will include logging practices, forest product utilization, invasive species, cost share programs, prescribe burning and an update on the new LP oriented strand board mill. Speakers include Tom Thompson, La. Pacific, Madeline Hildreth and Benji Elmore, Alabama Forestry Commission. Tour will start at 10 and lunch will be served at noon. JHS '77 Class meets

Jackson High School 1977 Class Reunion Committee will hold a meeting at the Jackson Steakhouse Saturday, March 17 at 4 p.m. Call Laura Donald at 251-769-8607.

SWAIA to meet

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, known as SWAIA, will hold a public meeting Tuesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be State Rep. Thomas Jackson, who will update the general public on legislative activities. There will also be a question and answer period. Relay for Life

Infirmary Hospice Care will be holding a Relay for Life softball tournament on Saturday, March 31 at S.P. Hudson Park in Grove Hill. Local businesses and groups are encouraged to form a team and sign up for a day of fun with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Registration fee is $50. This can be paid at the Infirmary Hospice Care office at 127 E Clarke Street in Grove Hill or call for more information at 1- 866-201-5603 Trophies will be given to winning teams.

Bake sale for Relay

The Grove Hill Baptist Church Relay for Life Team will hold a bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. in front of City Drugs. A large assortment of goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Relay for Life to be held Friday, April 13 in Grove Hill. If rain, the sale will be across the street at Galaxy Cable.

Diabetic support

Diabetic Support Group will meet quarterly at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Meeting dates for 2007 are May 3, Aug. 2 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Diabetes Education is offered at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital by an appointment only.
