Man charged with repeated rape of minor A former Jackson resident is accused of repeatedly raping a child under the age of 16 over a period of at least a year. Roger Dale O'Bryant, 59, was arrested Feb. 22, by Meridian, Miss. Police and returned to Jackson to face rape charges. According to Investigator Richard Harvey, O'Bryant is accused of the repeated rape of a female while the child was between the ages of 10 and 11. A second person is also being looked at as a possible suspect in the case. Harvey said if not for the efforts of the Meridian Police, O'Bryant may not have been apprehended. "They conducted surveillance on his apartment and arrested him at his place of employment," he said. "We owe a debt of gratitude to them for their cooperation with us on this case." O'Bryant waived extradition, was picked up Feb. 23 by officer Barry Fowler and transported back to the Jackson Police Department where he was booked. He was transported to the Clarke County Jail, where he was later released on $20,000 bond. A number of sexual assault cases are currently under investigation in Jackson. "This is the seventh sexual assault I have investigated within a month's time," added Harvey. Illegal enticement of a child Jackson Police are currently investigating a complaint that a 9-year-old male was enticed for immoral purposes by an adult male, Feb. 21.
Chief Charles Burge said Officer Arvis Slack took the report around 10 a.m., last Wednesday and the case is currently being investigated by Officer Richard Harvey. "We have a suspect in the case and expect to make an arrest in the near future," he added.
