Clarke County sends Abbeville packing from tournament

Every Bulldog got a chance to play in the first round of the Regional Tournament as they beat Abbeville 60-51 to advance to the championship game in Troy Thursday morning.

After falling behind15-8 in the first period Clarke County fought back as they scored nine points off turnovers to tie the game at 25-25 at the break.

In the second half they shot 55 percent from the floor and 43 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

They outscored the sixth-ranked Abbeville team 21-14 in the third frame behind consecutive baskets from Justin Burroughs and then one from Ben Burroughs. Marlon McConnell's lay-up with :53 seconds left put the Bulldogs up for good 40-39. CCHS closed out the period with 3-pointers from Deforest Taite and B. Burroughs.

The Bullodgs slammed the door shut in the fourth quarter as they outscored their opponent 14-12.

Ben Burroughs led the Bulldogs with 19 points, six rebounds and one steal. Deforest Taite added 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Justin Burroughs had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Kenneth Kimbrough had six points, six rebounds and two steals. Marlon McConnell added five points.

The win over Abbeville set Clarke County up to play in the regional title game against Calhoun on Saturday.
