Washington County, McIntosh girls headed to state tourney

Two other area high school basketball teams will be making bids for state crowns in Birmingham this week.

The McIntosh Lady Demons are looking to capture their second straight championship as they took on Spring Garden Tuesday night at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

McIntosh beat Brantley 81-43 last Friday night to capture the South Regional title in Troy and earn the spot in the state tournament.

They were led by MVP Kimberly Davis who had 28 points and nine steals. Xavier Barnes added 18 points and Alex Broussard had 12 points.

The Lady Bulldogs of Washington County, fresh off their 56-54 win over Calhoun, played Crossville Wednesday night in the Class 3A semi-final match-up.

Brittany Levertt was named the MVP of the tournament as she scored 33 points in the south title game. Amber Speights added 11 points and was named to the alltourney team.

The Class 1A championship game will be Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Class 3A title game will be Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m.
