Jackson

Mattie Bell Phelon "Sister" Jackson, 65, of the Choctaw Bluff community of Jackson died Feb. 23, 2007 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 5, 1941. She was the oldest child born to the parentage of Tom Phelon and Sarah Bell Darrington Phelon. She was a member of New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. She was known as "Sister" as she raised and cared for many children in the community.

Survivors include her husband, Oliver Lee Jackson, Choctaw Buff; six brothers, Joseph Phelon, Golden Phelon, Rev. Wash Phelon Sr., Rivers (Nancy) Phelon, all of Choctaw Bluff, David (Chena) Phelon, Tom Phelon, both of Mobile; three sisters, Mary Phelon (Timothy) Reaves, Choctaw Bluff, Rannie Phelon (John) Davis, Jackson, Sarah Phelon Young, Virginia.

The service was March 3 at 11 a.m. at New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff with Rev. Van Williams officiating. Burial was in the Darrington Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
