Sgt. Major Dennis King, right, was awarded his sixth Meritorious Service Medal recently by Commander LTC Brown for service as the S-3 Operations Sergeant Major, Headquarters, 2nd Infantry Division. "Sergeant Major King's dedication to duty and outstanding performance are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon him, the 2nd Infantry 'Warrior' Division and the United States Army," the citation reads.
Sergeant Major Dennis King, a native of Gosport, has recently completed a tour of duty in Korea and will be returning to the states by mid- February.

King, a 26-year U.S. Army veteran, was assigned as Special Troops Battalion Operation Sergeant Major in Korea.

King sent The Democrat a framed piece of the barbed wire fence from the DMZ that separates North and South Korea.

"I am now on assignment order to Fort Bragg, N.C. and I will be assigned to the Fourth Combat Brigade Team, 73rd Cavalry Squadron, Charlie Troops," he wrote in a letter to The Democrat.

"I ask for all to continue to keep us service members in your daily prayers as we continue to fight the war against terrorism. Your support is greatly appreciated and may God continue to bless each one of you."

King is the son of Lorenzo and Ella King of Gosport.
