Pictures From The Past

Last week's terrible tornadoes that caused much damage in Enterprise and Miller's Ferry prompted a reminder of another terrible storm- the March 21, 1913 "cyclone" that destroyed Lower Peach Tree. Twenty-eight people were killed and many homes and businesses destroyed. This picture must have been made on a Sunday because everyone is dressed up to look at the destruction of the town's post office and other buildings. See Jim Cox's column on the opposite page for more on the storm. This photo and another is in the book, A Pictorial History: Clarke County, Alabama, available at newspapers in the county.
