CPS Lady Gators take second in PA tourney

The Clarke Prep School Lady Gators traveled to Evergreen Monday and made short work of Sparta Academy 17-2.

Kay Kay Grocholl led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with a 3- run homer and four RBI. Tess Ackerman went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Corrie Allen went 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Anna Hicks went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jessica McKinley was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Stephanie Sales had two RBI. Haley Hill added a hit.

Grocholl got the win as she struck out eight over five innings of work.

This past weekend the Lady Gators battled through five games to take second place in the Patrician Academy Invitational Tournament.

In the title game CPS lost to Tuscaloosa 16-1.

Grocholl went 1-for-2 at the plate but also shouldered the loss. Ackerman had an RBI. Katelyn Dunagan went 1-for-1.

In the semi-final game Clarke Prep beat host team Patrician 5-3.

Allen got the win as she pitched all five frames, allowing six hits and fanning four.

Grocholl went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. K. Dunagan went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Courtney Dunagan went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Allen went 1-for-1.

Earlier in the day the Lady Gators beat Faith Academy 4-2.

McKinley went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Grocholl was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ackerman was 2-for-2. K. Dunagan and Sales each had a hit.

Ackerman got the win as she allowed two hits and struck out three in six innings of work.

Clarke Prep sent Cottage Hill home with a 5-4 win over the Mobile school.

Grocholl got the win with five strike outs in six frames of work.

K. Dunagan and Ackerman each went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Allen went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Hill and Hicks each had a hit.

In the first game last Saturday the Lady Gators beat Marengo 2-1.

Allen earned the win despite walking eight batters in five innings pitched.

Hill and Sales each had a hit and an RBI. K. Dunagan, Ackerman, Allen and C. Dunagan each had a hit.

Last Friday Clarke Prep lost 7-2 to Faith Academy, forcing them into the must-win situation on Saturday.

McKinley went 2-for-2. C. Dunagan and Allen each had a hit and RBI. K. Dunagan had a hit.

Grocholl took the loss.

In the tournament opener CPS beat Escambia 11-0.

Ackerman fanned nine batters over five innings to get the win.

Grocholl went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ackerman was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Allen went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Hill and C. Dunagan each had a hit. K. Dunagan had an RBI.

Last Tuesday the Lady Gators needed just three innings to beat Sparta 15-0 in Grove Hill as Grocholl tossed three perfect frames.

She had five strike-outs in the nine batters she faced.

At the plate Ackerman went 3-for- 3 with two triples and three RBI. Grocholl went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and four RBI. McKinley went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Allen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Sales and C. Dunagan each had a hit and two RBI. K. Dunagan and Hill each had a hit.

The Lady Gators (8-5) played Wilcox Academy Tuesday afternoon. Friday they travel to Hope Hull to play Hooper Academy. Next Monday they play Jackson and Patrician in a double-dipper at home.
