Powell named Sun Belt Player of Week

Troy University second baseman Brooke Powell was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 26-March 4.

Powell, a Clarke County High School graduate and a senior for the Trojans softball team, had a huge week at the plate hitting .550 (11-for-20 over the course of seven games as Troy went 5-2 for the week.

She also had 10 RBI that week to push her season total to 16. That number leads the team.

Powell had a homer against Florida A & M and doubled three times, as well as scoring five runs and taking three walks.

Powell, because of her week at the plate, now leads the team with a .453 average as well leading the team in five other catergories.

The Trojans return to play on Wednesday when they face Auburn in Troy.

She is the daughter of Dennis and Marsha Powell of Grove Hill.
