CPS Gators win PA ball tournament

The Clarke Prep School Gators powered their way past the host Saints of Patrician Academy 11-4 this past Saturday to win the Patrician Invitational Tournament in Butler.

Chad Dickinson (3-0) earned the win as he fanned seven hitters over six innings of work.

Dickinson also had a homer and a double as well as a walk and was hit by a pitch to pace CPS at the plate.

J.D. Powell went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Clay Furrow went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. Tanner Tucker was 4-for-4. Jason Gates had an RBI double. Windham Jackson added a home run.

Earlier in the day the Gators beat Escambia 14-1.

Jackson (2-0) fanned eight in getting the win.

Furrow went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. Taylor Becton went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Heath Bishop went 1-for- 3 with a homer and two RBI. Powell went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Dickinson added a single and an RBI.

Last Friday Clarke Prep opened the tournament by beating Sumter 13-11.

Furrow (1-0) got the win as he tossed the first three frames. Jason Gates pitched the final three innings.

Bishop went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI to pace the Gators at the plate. Furrow went 3- for-4. Gates was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Jackson went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Becton and Dickinson each had a hit.

With their tournament sweep the Gators improved to 6-0.

They played Sparta Monday in Evergreen. Tuesday they hosted Wilcox Academy. Friday they take to the road to play Hooper Academy in Hope Hull.

Next Monday they host Patrician and Jackson in a double-header.

Their first area game will be next Tuesday when they go to Mobile to play Cottage Hill.
