Another shameful act

Closer to home, we were also saddened by another scene.

Monday, we made a picture of a 102-year-old woman and her 83- year-old daughter being evicted from their modest mobile home residence near Coffeeville.

Edna Woodard and Rosie V. Thornton have been battling for years over the ownership of their 2.5 acre home site. An individual claimed to have a legimate deed but the two elderly black women say it is a fraudulent document.

The courts ruled against the two women and Monday a reluctant group of lawmen were there to enforce an enviction order.

We won't get into the legalities of who is right and who is wrong in this case because we don't know all of the facts.

We do, however, wonder why someone would be so all fired up to evict two old people from land that has no exceptional value and for which there are no apparent plans for other uses.

We've often heard the adage, "It may be legal but it ain't right."

We saw the saying illustrated very well Monday.
