Gators extend baseball record to 11-0 with PA win

The Clarke Prep School Gators baseball team improved to 11-0 on the season as they beat archrival Patrician Academy 10-8, coming from behind in the late innings Monday afternoon.

The win allowed CPS to sweep a double-header that also featured the Jackson Academy Eagles.

Jason Gates (2-0) got the win and Windham Jackson earned the save.

Chad Dickinson swung the hot stick as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. J.D. Powell went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Heath Bishop was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Jackson went 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Earlier in the afternoon Clarke Prep beat in-county rival Jackson 9-1.

Clay Furrow went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jackson also went 3-for- 4 with an RBI. Tanner Tucker was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Tucker (2-0) got the win, pitching all six frames, allowing three hits while striking out two.

Last Friday the Gators took to the road and beat the Colts of Hooper Academy 3-0 in a big Class AAA contest.

Dickinson (4-0) pitched five innings, striking out six to get the win. Jackson earned another save.

Powell went 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Gators at the plate. Furrow was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Taylor Becton and Gates each went 1-for-3.

Last Tuesday the Gators officially dedicated John H. Becton baseball field with an 11-1 pounding of Wilcox Academy.

The field was named in honor of longtime supporter Becton.

In the game Furrow (3-0) fanned 10, walked one and allowed just one run in five innings of work to get the win.

Tucker went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Furrow helped his own cause at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Dickinson had an RBI double.

The Gators put their winning streak on the line Tuesday as they traveled to Mobile to play Cottage Hill in their first area game of the season. Thursday (today) they head to Camden to take on Wilcox Academy. Friday they host Taylor Road.

The results from these games will be in next week's Democrat.
