Lady Bulldogs off to a great start in softball

The Clarke County High School Lady Bulldogs are off and running with a 3-0 record after they beat the Lady Wildcats of Millry 15-3 Monday afternoon on Wildcat Hill in Millry.

Carrie Gordon went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead CCHS at the plate. Menetre Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Hannah Barnes was 2- for-3 with two RBI. Brittney Harvell, Nikki Williams and Ericka Williams each had a hit and an RBI.

E. Williams (3-0) pitched all five innings to get the win. She walked four and struck out three.

Last Saturday the Lady Bulldogs had their home opener and beat the visting Lady Bulldogs of Sweet Water 16-5.

Williams (2-0) got the win, but gave way to the mound after just two and two-thirds innings pitched to Abby Walker to hold Sweet Water scoreless over the last two and a third frames. They combined to strike out five batters.

Gordon was en fuego at the plate as she went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Martin was 2-for-4 with an RBI. E. Williams went 2-for-2 with two RBI. B. Harvell was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hannah Barnes, Brittney Dunson and Nicki Harvell each had a hit and an RBI. Ayesha Dickinson added a hit.

Clarke County opened the season last Thursday with a 10-4 win over Choctaw County in Butler.

E. Williams (1-0) pitched all seven frames and struck five to get the win.

Gordon went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. N. Williams went 2-for-4 with a double. B. Harvell had a double and two RBI. Barnes added an RBI double. N. Harvell had a hit and an RBI. E. Williams also had a hit.

The Lady Bulldogs, under new coach Tori Johnson, traveled to Gilbertown Tuesday to play Southern Choctaw.

The results from that game will be in next week's Democrat.
