Chemical spill scare
An 18-wheeler tanker truck hauling sodium hydroxide from Olin Chemical in McIntosh had stopped at Dunn's Exxon in Grove Hill last Thursday when a leak was noticed. The chemical is hazardous and can be fatal if you get it on you or inhale it in great quantities. A number of individuals and agencies worked all day to off load the chemical to another truck and to keep it out of nearby storm drains. The chemical was moved without incident. Helping were the Grove Hill Fire Department, Town of Grove Hill Street Department, Grove Hill Police, Clarke County EMA, Olin, the Clarke County Commission and Tri-Mac Trucking. Lamar Beech of Olin complimented everyone who helped as did Lee Dunn of Dunn's Exxon.
