Sheriff says he won't force elderly women out

An eviction notice was initially presented to Rosie V. Thorton, 82, and her mother, 102-year-old Edna Woodard at their mobile home residence on the West Bend Road near Coffeeville a few weeks ago.

David Wood claims to own the two acres where the mobile home is located and has been upheld through several court proceedings.

Last Friday a large crowd gathered at the Woodard's trailer where lawmen were expected to come again to evict the women.

Sheriff Bobby Moore was there. "We went to the trailer and I asked Mrs. Woodard if she was going to move. She said she wasn't going to move so I left it at that."

"I told them I'd move her out if the judges will stand shoulder to shoulder with me and lift their arms to help move them out."

Thornton and Woodard own 10 acres adjacent to the property but have refused to move their mobile home there, claiming Wood's deed to the property isn't valid.
