Area 9 HIV group meets

The Area 9 HIV Prevention Community Group will have its next meeting Friday, April 6 at 11 a.m. in the Community Room of the Monroe County Health Department. This is a change from the usual meeting date. Anyone interested in activities which will prevent the spread of HIV is welcome to attend. For more information contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

Free tax workshop

The Grove Hill Chamber of Commerce and Alabama Department of Revenue will offer a free Tax Workshop to new business owners and established businesses that want a refresher course on taxes Tuesday, April 10 at 3 and 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the Clarke County Jail at 149 Clark Street in Grove Hill.

ATRC annual meeting

The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission will hold its semi-annual meeting Wednesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at Ezells Fish Camp in Lavaca. A fish and chicken dinner will be served at a cost of $18 per person. The guest speaker for the evening will be Joe McInnes, Director of the Alabama Department of Transportation. NAACP changes date

The Clarke County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, (NAACP) meeting has been canceled. However, another meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, April 12 at 6 p.m. Asking Executive board and all other members to attend

Gospel singing for relay

Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Relay for Life team will hold a gospel singing featuring "The Centurions" in concert Friday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Glory Road Quartet of Thomasville will also be performing. A love offering will be taken. The church is located three miles north of Thomasville on Highway 5. All proceeds go to The American Cancer Society. Crops for Cancer

Clarke-Washington Electric Membership Corporation's Relay for Life team will host a scrapbooking crop to benefit the American Cancer Society Friday, April 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. the CWEMC office located at 1307 College Avenue in Jackson. Donate $10 to CWEMC's Relay for Life team and bring your supplies and a friend as they "Crop for Cancer." Call Anna Wright at CWEMC at 251-246-9081 by Tuesday, April 10 to register.

Relay for Life set

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held in Grove Hill. A survivor's reception, honoring all cancer survivors, will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 13 at the Helms House. Opening ceremony for the relay will begin at 6 p.m. Relay for Life will be held on the grounds of the Clarke County Museum. This is a community event and everyone is invited to attend as there will be food, fun and fellowship to fight for a cure for cancer. Class of '82 reunion meet

Coffeeville Clean-up Week

The Coffeeville Community Clean-up Week will be held

Saturday, April 14 through Saturday, April 21. Residents are encouraged to clean roadsides and other public areas in order to make the town more beautiful. A dumpster will be provided for town and road debris. No tires, batteries or household garbage please. A kick-off celebration will be held Saturday, April 14 with food, fun and fellowship, including games and prizes for children, following the clean-up. The clean-up is sponsored by the Coffeeville Beautification Committee. For more information or to get clean-up supplies contact Rita Wilson at 251-276-3358.

Grove Hill's spring cleanup

begins April 14

Grove Hill's annual spring clean up will be held the week of April 14-21. Free trash bags, gloves, water and refreshments will be available at the chamber office on Saturday, April 14 from 8-11 a.m. for anyone picking up litter and trash that day. Also you can register to win a new garbage can for picking up litter. A large dumpster will be located behind town hall during the week for all your trash and litter disposal. No household garbage or hazardous waste will be accepted. For more information call the chamber at 251-275-4188 or email them at grovehillcoc@tds.net.
