Lady Gators edged in pair of tourney games

The Clarke Prep School Lady Gators saw their seven game winning streak come to an end this past weekend in the Faith Academy softball tournament in Mobile.

In their final game of the tourney the Lady Gators lost 9-7 to Lowndes Academy.

Corrie Allen and Kay Kay Grocholl each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Stephanie Sales also was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Katelyn Dunagan was 2-for-2. Tess Ackerman went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Haley Hill went 1-for-3.

Ackerman shouldered the loss as she allowed just one earned run in five innings of work. She also struck out four and issued four walks.

In the second game Clarke Prep was edged 7-6 by arch-rival Patrician Academy.

Anna Hicks went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to pace the Lady Gators. Ackerman was 2-for-3 with a triple. Grocholl was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Hill was 1-for-3 with a homer. K. Dunagan was 1-for-3.

Allen started the game and pitched the first four innings before Ackerman came on to pitch the final three innings.

The two combined to strike-out eight batters.

The Lady Gators opened play last Friday by beating Macon- East 5-4.

Hill was 2-for-3 with an RBI. K. Dunagan was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Sales also had an RBI. Jessica McKinley and Grocholl each had a hit.

Grocholl earned the win as she allowed just four hits and one earned run in five innings on the mound.

The Lady Gators got their final shot at the Lady Saints Monday afternoon when they traveled to Butler to play Patrician. Saturday they travel to Jackson to play the Lady Eagles in a double-header.

The results from these game will be in next week's Democrat.
