meets tonight

The Clarke County National Association Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) meeting will be Thursday, (tonight), April 12 at 6 p.m. Asking Executive board and all other members to attend

Gospel singing

for relay

Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Relay for Life team will hold a gospel singing featuring "The Centurions" in concert Friday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Glory Road Quartet of Thomasville will also be performing. A love offering will be taken. The church is located three miles north of Thomasville on Highway 5. All proceeds go to The American Cancer Society. Crops for Cancer

Clarke-Washington Electric Membership Corporation's Relay for Life team will host a scrapbooking crop to benefit the American Cancer Society

Friday, April 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. the CWEMC office located at 1307 College Avenue in Jackson. Donate $10 to CWEMC's Relay for Life team and bring your supplies and a friend as they "Crop for Cancer." Call Anna Wright at CWEMC at 251-246-9081 by Tuesday, April 10 to register.

Relay for Life set

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held in Grove Hill. A survivor's reception, honoring all cancer survivors, will be held at 5 p.m.

Friday, April 13 at the Helms House. Opening ceremony for the relay will begin at 6 p.m. Relay for Life will be held on the grounds of the Clarke County Museum. This is a community event and everyone is invited to attend as there will be food, fun and fellowship to fight for a cure for cancer. Coffeeville Clean-up

The Coffeeville Community Clean-up Week will be held Saturday, April 14 through Saturday, April 21. Residents are encouraged to clean roadsides and other public areas in order to make the town more beautiful. A dumpster will be provided for town and road debris. No tires, batteries or household garbage please. A kick-off celebration will be held Saturday, April 14 with food, fun and fellowship, including games and prizes for children, following the clean-up. cleanup begins

Grove Hill's annual spring clean up will be held the week of April 14-21. Free trash bags, gloves, water and refreshments will be available at the chamber office on Saturday, April 14 from 8-11 a.m. for anyone picking up litter and trash that day. Also you can register to win a new garbage can for picking up litter. A large dumpster will be located behind town hall during the week for all your trash and litter disposal. Rikard's Mill

reopens

Rikard's Mill will have its annual reopening Saturday, April 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission will be $5 adults and $3 for seniors and children. Rikard's Mill features the grist mill turning out meal and grits again as it has done since Jake Rikard first established a grist mill on Flat Creek in 1845. See blacksmithing, enjoy arts and crafts, Doug Bagwell's mule and wagon rides, story telling and listen to bluegrass, southern gospel and country music all day long. Featuring Winkie Hicks Bluegrass Band of Grove Hill, Jimmy Brock, Fred Sheffield and Friends Classic Country Band of Camden; Delay-Middle of the Road Rock band of Monroeville, (Rickey Salter, Bob Rainey, Jamerson Nelson, Staey Wilson and Don Faulk); Mitchell Stabler of Franklin will be playing Hank Williams. Clark's BBQ will be available. Rikard's Mill is located between Monroeville and Camden on Highway 265, five miles north of Beatrice. All arts and crafts vendors please call to make reservations. SWAIA to meet

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, (SWAIA) will hold a public meeting Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be attorney J.R. Morgan of Jackson. The topic will be "Preserving Your Legal Rights: Adverse Land Possession." There will be a question and answer period. Jackson to speak

at UM

Dr. Harvey H. Jackson III, professor of history and chair of the history and foreign languages department at Jacksonville State University, will deliver a lecture entitled "It Ain't Easy Being Southern: Some Personal Thoughts on Identifying Regional Identity," as part of the Second Annual University of Mobile Billy G. Hinson Lecture Series. Jackson grew up in Grove Hill. The lecture will be held Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium on the University of Mobile campus. It is free and open to the public. Bay Strings

to perform

The Mobile Symphony presents Bay Area Strings Orchestra in Concert - "A Musical Evening in Clarke County,"

Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at Sage Auditorium in Grove Hill. The concert is open to the public. There is no admission charge. Donations at the door for the symphony educational program are welcomed and most appreciated.

The Grove Hill Arts Council is sponsoring a photography contest and exhibit Friday, April 27-Sunday, April 29 at the Clarke Clarke County museum. Chip Cooper, an award winning Alabama photographer, will be the judge for this event. Entries must be brought to the Public Library in Grove Hill, Jackson, or Thomasville between April 2-13. CCHS Old Timers

to meet

The Clarke County High School Old Timers Reunion will be Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. in the Grove Hill Elementary School Cafeteria. This is a change from previous years when the event was held in the CCHS Cafeteria. Due to the new school construction there, the location had to be changed this year. GHES is located on Old Highway 84 less than one mile west of the new Highway 43 bypass. The Class of 1957 will be honored this year. Please bring a covered dish for lunch. The registration fee is $2.

Diabetic Support Group will meet quarterly at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Meeting dates for 2007 are May 3, Aug. 2 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Diabetes Education is offered at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital by an appointment only. The descendants of John S. Green 1805-1865 and Sarah Ann Flewellen will hold their annual reunion for the related families of Roland Cooper State Park near Camden at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. All members and guests are invited to come and bring a picnic lunch. Green, Flewellen, Rhoads, Gates, Crum, Thomas, Culpepper, Harvell and other families are included.

An Open House and Fundraiser will be held

Saturday, May 19 at the Opine- Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department. The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. Entertainment will be provided. Concessions will be sold. There will be a quilt and cake auction.
