Scale Back Alabama boasts local combined weight loss of 396 lbs.

"Scale Back Alabama" Clarke County community participants lost a combined weight of 396.76 pounds during the program. Weight loss at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital totaled 209.46 pounds. Participants logged 680.86 miles on the Scale Back Trail at the hospital.

The top winning team was "Let's Walk G-Town," with the participants with a 4.70 percent weight loss, or 28 pounds. They included Caressie Howard, Earnestine Marsh and Josephine Dozier. The team also logged the most miles for a week, 24.

They won the $50 local cash prize and a $30 gift certificate to Finding Balance Spa in Thomasville.

The "Five Little Pigs" team placed a close second, posting a 4.67 percent weight loss for a total of 39 pounds. They were Angie Williams, Phyllis Barnes, Lisa Dunagan and Dot Robinson.

Archie Coats submitted the favorite recipe, one for Lemony Parfait. Edna Keel attended the most community education classes, all eight.

Participants gathered at the hospital March 22 to celebrate the end of the competition and the beginning of a lifetime of healthier living.

The hospital sponsored the gift items and the program had help from a number of businesses and individuals.
