Kelley named conference player of the week

AUM second baseman Junior Kelley of Whatley was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his outstanding performances in wins over Columbus State and Shorter College. For the week, Kelley hit .714 with four doubles, three homers and 11 RBI in four games. He also established a new record for consecutive games with a hit at AUM on Saturday with a two-hit outing versus Shorter. Against Columbus State, he set a new Senators single-game record with three doubles.

Kelley is hitting .472 with 13 doubles, 10 home runs and 49 RBI on the year. Through 45 games in 2007, he maintains a slugging percentage of .739 and has walked only eight times with two strike outs. In only his second year with the Senators, he stands as the school's seventh all-time leader in total hits with 185, the third all-time leader in doubles with 35, and the eighth all-time leader in homers with 18.
