COMMUNITY CALENDAR BOE meets today The Clarke County Board of Education will meet Thursday, (today), April 19 at 4 p.m. Item on the agenda include the superintendent's report, report by auditors, approval for contract with Mayne & Mertz for seismic and geophysical survey, personnel, bills, accounts and payroll. Jackson to speak at UM Dr. Harvey H. Jackson III, professor of history and chair of the history and foreign languages department at Jacksonville State University, will deliver a lecture entitled "It Ain't Easy Being Southern: Some Personal Thoughts on Identifying Regional Identity," as part of the Second Annual University of Mobile Billy G. Hinson Lecture Series. Jackson grew up in Grove Hill. The lecture will be held Thursday, (tonight), April 19 at 7 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium on the University of Mobile campus. Hudson family reunion Descendants of Robert, Lee, Willard Hudson, Berta Hudson Hoven and Annie Hudson Driskell will gather Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. until for a full day of fellowship at the Kimbell House in Jackson. Coffeeville's clean-up ends April 21 The Coffeeville Community Clean-up Week will be continue through Saturday, April 21. Residents are encouraged to clean roadsides and other public areas in order to make the town more beautiful. A dumpster will be provided for town and road debris. No tires, batteries or household garbage please. A kick-off celebration will be held Saturday, April 14 with food, fun and fellowship, including games and prizes for children, following the clean-up. Grove Hill's cleanup ends April 21 Grove Hill's annual spring clean up will continue through Saturday, April 21. A large dumpster will be located behind town hall during the week for all your trash and litter disposal. No household garbage or hazardous waste will be accepted. CCHS Band to perform The Clarke County High School Concert Band and Chorus will be presented in concert at the school's auditorium Wednesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. There will be no admission fee and the public is invited. Bay Strings to perform The Mobile Symphony presents Bay Area Strings Orchestra in Concert - "A Musical Evening in Clarke County," Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at Sage Auditorium in Grove Hill. The concert is open to the public. There is no admission charge. Donations at the door for the symphony educational program are welcomed and most appreciated. GHMHA jewelry sale The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will have its $5 and $10 Jewelry Sale presented by Jewelry Fundraisers Thursday, April 26 from 8-5 and Friday, April 27 from 7-4 p.m. The sale is sponsored by the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. It will take place in the lobby of the hospital. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. The public is invited. Roberts family reunion set The annual reunion of the descendants and relatives of Florence Almanza Cobb Roberts and William Riley Roberts will be Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at Witch Creek Baptist Church. Photos to be exhibited The Grove Hill Arts Council is sponsoring a photography contest and exhibit Friday, April 27- Sunday, April 29 at the Clarke Clarke County Museum. Chip Cooper, an award winning Alabama photographer, will be the judge for this event. Entries must be brought to the Public Library in Grove Hill, Jackson, or Thomasville between April 2-13. CCHS Old Timers meet The Clarke County High School Old Timers Reunion will be Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. in the Grove Hill Elementary School Cafeteria. This is a change from previous years when the event was held in the CCHS Cafeteria. Due to the new school construction there, the location had to be changed this year. GHES is located on Old Highway 84 less than one mile west of the new Highway 43 bypass. The Class of 1957 will be honored this year. Please bring a covered dish for lunch. The registration fee is $2. CCHS Class of 1962 meets Clarke County High School Class of 1962 will have a Dutch treat supper Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at Gloria's Pour House. For more information call Dot Bell at 334-636-9287. Clanton Family reunion The Clanton Family Reunion will be Sunday, April 29 at the home of Henry and Kathleen Dunagan in Coffeeville. Worship service will be at the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville at 11 a.m. with a covered dish lunch at 12:45 p.m. There will be music, fellowship and children's games in the afternoon. A family golf tournament will be Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Deerfield Country Club in Chatom. Trophy holders from 2006 are Sharon St. Laurent and Judd Mullinix.
