CPS Gators fall, miss shot at playoffs

The Clarke Prep School Gators split a double-header with Cottage Hill Tuesday afternoon in Grove Hill.

Going into the double-dipper the Gators knew they needed to win both games to make it to the playoffs. Everything went according to plan in the first game as they won 5-0.

Chad Dickinson pitched a 7-inning masterpiece as he allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out four.

Clay Furrow was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to pace the team at the plate. Windham Jackson was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Heath Bishop was 1- for-3 with an RBI. Jason Gates was 1-for-3.

In the second game Clarke Prep lost 14-4.

The Gators were leading 2-0 in the second inning when starting pitcher Furrow was ejected after a controversial base-running play at the plate.

After that Cottage Hill took a huge lead before winning the game.

Taylor Becton led CPS at the plate as he went 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Powell was 1- for-2 with a double. Gates was 1- for-2 with two RBI. Tanner Tucker and Wesley Morgan each had a hit.

Gates and Jackson finished the game on the mound for the Gators.

Clarke Prep suffered a tough loss last Tuesday as Monroe Academy hit a dramatic 2-run homer to win 10-08 in Monroeville.

Clay Furrow was on fire at the plate as he went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI. J.D. Powell was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Taylor Becton went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Wesley Morgan went 1-for- 3 with a triple and an RBI. Tanner Tucker went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Windham Jackson was 1- for-4.

Thursday (today) the Gators take to the road as they travel to Selma to play Morgan. On Friday they host Fort Dale Academy.

The results from these games will be in next week's Democrat.
