Bay Strings to perform

The Mobile Symphony presents Bay Area Strings Orchestra in Concert - "A Musical Evening in Clarke County," Thursday, (tonight) April 26 at 7 p.m. at Sage Auditorium in Grove Hill. The concert is open to the public. There is no admission charge. Donations at the door for the symphony educational program are welcomed and most appreciated.

Church leadership

program in Thomasville

A free seminar , "Contagious Leadership: Equipping Leaders for Impact," will be held at Pineview Baptist Church in Thomasville Thursday, April 26, starting at 7 p.m. This special program is brought by Life@Work, a strategic part of INJOY. It will help your church staff and lay leadership in the important task of developing spiritual leaders. It will equip the staff and membership alike with an understanding and a perspective on developing leaders in the church. Speakers will be John C. Maxwell, best selling author, leadership trainer, and founder of the INJOY Group; John Hull, president of Equip International, and Tom Mullins, author and senior pastor of Christ Fellowship. Juneteenth preparations

The Clarke County National Association Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will meet Thursday (tonight), April 26 7 p.m. All executive board and other members are asked to attend as preparations for the Juneteenth celebration will be made.

GHMHA jewelry sale

The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will have its $5 and $10 Jewelry Sale presented by Jewelry Fundraisers Thursday, April 26 from 8-5 and Friday, April 27 from 7-4 p.m. The sale is sponsored by the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. It will take place in the lobby of the hospital. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. The public is invited.

Photo contest, exhibit

"Photography in Your Own Backyard" Contest and Exhibit, featuring historical sites in Clarke County, Opening Reception will be

Friday, April 27 at 5 until 7 p.m. There will be over 217 photographs in different categories on display. Chip Cooper, an award winning Alabama photographer, will be the judge for this contest, will be on hand with a sampling of his work and books featuring his photography. The exhibit will also be open Saturday, April 28 from 2 until 4 p.m. for viewing and Sunday, April 29 from 2 until 4 p.m. at which time the winners will be announced. The Grove Hill Arts Council, the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, sponsors this exhibit. The public is invited to attend.

CCHS Old Timers

The Clarke County High School Old Timers Reunion will be

Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. in the Grove Hill Elementary School Cafeteria. This is a change from previous years when the event was held in the CCHS Cafeteria. Due to the new school construction there, the location had to be changed this year. GHES is located on Old Highway 84 less than one mile west of the new Highway 43 bypass. The Class of 1957 will be honored this year. Please bring a covered dish for lunch. The registration fee is $2.

CCHS Class of '62 meets

Clarke County High School Class of 1962 will have a Dutch treat supper Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at Gloria's Pour House. For more information call Dot Bell at 334-636-9287.

Clanton Family reunion

The Clanton Family Reunion will be Sunday, April 29 at the home of Henry and Kathleen Dunagan in Coffeeville. Worship service will be at the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville at 11 a.m. with a covered dish lunch at 12:45 p.m. There will be music, fellowship and children's games in the afternoon. A family golf tournament will be Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Deerfield Country Club in Chatom. Trophy holders from 2006 are Sharon St. Laurent and Judd Mullinix.

Historical Society meets

The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. in at the Clarke County Museum. On display at the museum will be the entries from the Grove Hill Arts Council's photography contest. This year the feature of the contest was historic photographs. Noted photographer, Chip Cooper will speak at the meeting. Cooper is the Director of Photography at the University of Alabama. He is also a freelance photographer. His works have been published in several books including "Silent in the Land and Common Threads." The public is invited to the meeting.

VFW Post 5106 meets

VFW Post 5106 and its Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a pot luck meal for its regular monthly meeting. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. The post meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, April 30. All members are urged to attend.

WHMS meets at Sage

Parents/guardians of all Wilson Hall Middle School Eighth Grade students will meet Tuesday, May 1 at Clarke County High School's Sage Auditorium at 6 p.m. Please make an effort to attend. Many topics relating to your upcoming high school student(s) will be discussed and explained.

Coffeeville RSVP meets

The Coffeeville RSVP will meet

Tuesday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at the Nutrition Center. RSVP Director, Donna Phillips, will be presenting a Disaster Preparedness Training Program. Everyone is encouraged to attend. With the hurricane season approaching everyone needs to be prepared to protect your families and property. Visitors are welcomed.

Diabetic support group

Diabetic Support Group will meet quarterly at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Meeting dates for 2007 are May 3, Aug. 2 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Diabetes Education is offered at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital by an appointment only. Cole Hicks benefit

There will be a Boston butt/bake sale/donation drop for Cole Hicks Friday, May 4 at Daryl Powell Trucking in Jackson. The Boston butts will be sold in advance for $20. Orders need to be placed by Tuesday, April 24 by calling 251- 246-3600. You may pick them up at Daryl Powell Trucking Friday,

May 4 before 5 p.m. The bake sale will be an all day event. Donations may be made throughout the day at the bake sale. VFW Post 5106 fish fry

The VFW Post 5106 will have a fish fry on Friday, May 4 from 11 until 2 p.m. Plates are $6 each and will include fish, cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppies.

Gates' family reunion

The Gates' Family Reunion (William and Mary Eve Stifflemire Gates' Family) and decoration will be at the Gates' Family Cemetery in Scyrene Saturday, May 5. The family reunion will be at Ryan's Restaurant on Highway 43 in Thomasville at noon. Lunch may be purchased from the restaurant. Fellowship and decoration will follow at the Gates' Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Scyrene at 2 p.m. Gospel music and a devotional will be a part of the decoration service. Culture Fest May 5

The Annual "Culture Fest" sponsored by Genesis, Inc. and the city of Jackson is planned for Saturday, May 5 at the Jackson City Hall grounds from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Culture Fest showcases the multi-cultural images of Jackson. Local choirs, chorus groups, praise teams, poets and motivational speakers are invited to participate. Businesses, groups and churches are encouraged to reserve a booth space. For space availability call 251-247-0888. There will be food and entertainment and games for the children. Cash prizes and prize drawings will occur throughout the day. You must be present to win. Admission is free. Activities will include an adult "Pound Cake Cooking Competition" and children's "Cookie Cooking Competition." Other events will be announced in the next several weeks.

Green family reunion

The descendants of John S. Green 1805-1865 and Sarah Ann Flewellen 1822-1888 will hold their annual reunion for the related families at Roland Cooper State Park near Camden at 11:30 a.m. on

Jackson High School Class of 1978 will have a meeting Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. All interested class members are urged to attend.
