Seatbelts important
New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine probably doesn't want the job, but he would be a good poster model for wearing seatbelts. Gov. Corzine was in a bad car accident April 12 that broke 11 of his ribs, his sternum, a leg, his collarbone and a vertebra. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt when the SUV he was ...

Bob Ingram
The vote may have already been taken by the time you read this, but it will be interesting to pick up the feedback legislators got during their spring break on the slavery apology resolution. When Sen. Hank Sanders, D-Selma, offered the resolution 10 days ago…he said he did it in the name ...

Inside the Statehouse
Legislature at mid-session
Steve Flowers
This year's legislative session is at the midway point and it was moving somewhat smoother than was originally anticipated. However, the partisan acrimony created by the organizational session's war for control of the senate has crept into the picture and has cast a somber cloud over the process.

Up above the notch

Sometimes you pick up a book to read and it seems the author has chosen to be deliberately obtuse. If in Mrs. Oliver's English class at Orrville High School, I had left quotation marks off spoken dialogue, she would have scolded me severely and held me up before the entire senior class of 20 studen...

Congress Reports
No one wants more taxes
Jo Bonner
Tax Day 2007 was bittersweet - as millions of Americans are due to receive higher average tax refunds than last year, the celebration is tempered by the threat of a looming tax increase. This year, Americans will once again have more money returning to their pockets, which is in no small part due...
