Seeing the Elephant The Tide Faithful set a record for attendance at a college scrimmage game Saturday, turning out some 92,138 strong for the Crimson Tide's A-Day game. There were likely 100,000 or more people in the vicinity of Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Many of them couldn't get into the filled stadium. The record-setting crowd more than doubled the previous record of 51,117, set in 1988 when the spring scrimmage game was held on Birmingham's Legion Field. It also easily outpaced the record 73,000 that once saw Tennessee's spring game at Neyland Stadium. The turnout shows the excitement and interest in the University of Alabama's football program and its $4 million coach, Nick Saban. The White team beat the Crimson squad 20-13 Saturday but that wasn't really a big deal. Coach Saban's draw and the Faithful's renewed interest in UA football was the real news.
The Faithful are ready for the Big Elephant to return, snorting and stomping.
