Bulldogs beat Clay Co. to advance

For the first time since 1998 the Clarke County High School Bulldogs will be advancing to the second round of the state baseball playoffs as they beat Clay County 5-2 in Ashland Tuesday afternoon.

Robert Malone struck out 12 batters, allowed just four hits but walked eight in getting the win.

At the plate Malone helped his own cause with a solo homer and three RBI. Tyler Walker added a double. Josh Watford had a hit and an RBI. Hunter Cross, Justin Robinson, Adrian Snell, Rashad Snell and Dewayne Owens all added hits.

The Bulldogs (9-23) now host LAMP (Loveless Academy Magnet School) this Friday in a best two-of-three game series. The double-header starts Friday at 4 p.m. The "if-game" will be Saturday.

The Bulldogs were edged 5-4 by the Jackson Aggies this past Saturday in the Clarke County round-robin tournament in Thomasville.

The Aggies chased across three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game and then added the game winner in the seventh.

Robert Malone was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Rashad Snell was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Justin Robinson, Terrance Frazier, Adrian Snell and Dewayne Owens each added a hit.

Tyler Walker started the game on the mound for CCHS and pitched four scoreless innings. Chris Andrews followed and lasted one frame. Justin Fendley took the loss in the last two innings of work.

Last Friday the Bulldogs lost 11-1 to host team Thomasville.

Malone went 2-for-3 for Clarke County.

Josh Watford and Deandre Love pitched for the Bulldogs.

Last Thursday CCHS dropped a heartbreaker 2-1 to the visiting Panthers of Excel.

Malone tossed seven innings, striking out seven, walking two and allowing just two hits.

Justin Robinson had a hit and scored a run. Justin Fendley added a triple with an RBI.
