GH Dixie Youth softball games to be rescheduled
In a game Monday night between a Grove Hill squad and a Thomasville team one of the players fell while running on the uneven surface from home plate to first base, prompting the call from the officials. League officers are scrambling to reschedule the many games and with other league games already filling the other fields on most nights of the week, the task will be difficult. Only Sonny Gibson Field can be used because the bases on the baseball fields and the pitcher's mound would have to be moved to allow for softball games to be played. The Scotch Field, which is used for T-ball games, would be available for the younger teams, but not the older girls. The park is owned and operated by the town of Grove Hill and any work to improve the field would have to be done or approved by town leaders.
Mayor Lamar Hudson was out of town but council member Terry Stifflemire said the problem was going to be addressed as soon as possible to get the games back on schedule.
