Diabetic support group meets at GHMH

Diabetic Support Group will meet quarterly at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Meeting dates for 2007 are Thursday, (today), May 3, Aug. 2 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Diabetes Education is offered at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital by an appointment only. Cole Hicks benefit

May 4

There will be a Boston butt/bake sale/donation drop for Cole Hicks Friday, May 4 at Daryl Powell Trucking in Jackson. The Boston butts will be sold in advance for $20. Orders need to be placed by Tuesday, April 24 by calling 251-246-3600. You may pick them up at Daryl Powell Trucking Friday, May 4 before 5 p.m. The bake sale will be an all day event. Donations may be made throughout the day at the bake sale. Accounts have been set up at Merchants Bank and First United Security Bank if you would like to make your donation there. You can also make an order with any contact at Daryl Powell Trucking including Daryl and Missie Powell, Joe and Mandy Jones, Erica and Dean Porter, Erica and Frankie Cox, Jeremy and Natalie Anderson, Shannon and Carey Batley (K-Bo) and Kay Powell, bake sale. VFW Post 5106 fish fry

The VFW Post 5106 will have a fish fry on Friday, May 4 from 11 until 2 p.m. Plates are $6 each and will include fish, cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppies.

ASU Alumni

banquet set

The Clarke County Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University will have its annual banquet Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at The Fish House at 1028 College Avenue in Jackson. Judge Jo Celeste Pettway of Wilcox County will be the featured speaker. Tickets are $10 each. Contact Anola F. Holly at 251-246-3036 for more information.

Gates' family reunion

The Gates' Family Reunion (William and Mary Eve Stifflemire Gates' Family) and decoration will be at the Gates' Family Cemetery in Scyrene Saturday, May 5 . The family reunion will be at Ryan's Restaurant on Highway 43 in Thomasville at 12 noon. Lunch may be purchased from the restaurant. Fellowship and decoration will follow at the Gates' Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Scyrene at 2 p.m. Gospel music and a devotional will be a part of the decoration service. Culture Fest slated

for May 5

The Annual "Culture Fest" sponsored by Genesis, Inc. and the city of Jackson is planned for Saturday, May 5 at the Jackson City Hall grounds from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Culture Fest showcases the multi-cultural images of Jackson. Local choirs, chorus groups, praise teams, poets and motivational speakers are invited to participate. Businesses, groups and churches are encouraged to reserve a booth space. For space availability call 251-247-0888. There will be food and entertainment and games for the children. Cash prizes and prize drawings will occur throughout the day. You must be present to win. Admission is free. Activities will include an adult "Pound Cake Cooking Competition" and children's "Cookie Cooking Competition." Other events will be announced in the next several weeks.

Green family reunion set

The descendants of John S. Green 1805-1865 and Sarah Ann Flewellen 1822-1888 will hold their annual reunion for the related families at Roland Cooper State Park near Camden at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 . All members and guests are invited to come and bring a picnic lunch. Green, Flewellen, Rhoads, Gates, Crum, Thomas, Culpepper, Harvell and other families are included. JHS planning reunion

Jackson High School Class of 1978 will have a meeting Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. All interested class members are urged to attend.

Dixie Bluegrass

festival set

The annual springtime Dixie Bluegrass Gospel Festival will be Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12 at the Sullivan Family Home Place Park near St. Stephens. The park is located nine miles south of Jackson, one mile off Highway 43. There will be a pot luck supper on Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. The festival will feature The Bush Family, The McPhersons, Stillwater, The Balos Family, Lighthouse String Ensemble, Jubilee Road, New Edition and many more. The festival is hosted by The Sullivan Family. For more information call 251-246-4553. The annual fall homecoming festival will be Oct. 18, 19 and 20.

HIV Prevention meeting

The area-wide HIV Prevention Community Group will have its monthly meeting Friday, May 11 from 11 a.m. until noon at the Monroe County Health Department.
