The Clarke County High School Bulldogs continued their improbable run through the 3A baseball playoffs as they beat the Tigers of LAMP (Loveless Academy Magnet School) of Montgomery 5-2 and 6-1 this past Friday night in Grove Hill.

Tyler Walker, who caught the first game, was called on to pitch in the second game and tossed a 3-hit gem in the 6-1 win.

Robert Malone reached on an error by the LAMP second baseman. He moved to third on Hunter Cross' hit. Justin Robinson followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Malone home and CCHS led 1-0.

The score remained that way until the sixth frame when Malone again reached first on a LAMP error. Then the Tiger pitcher made an error as he left a curveball hanging out over the plate and Cross smacked the pitch over the left-center wall for a 2- run homer and the Bulldogs had a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers broke up the shutout in the bottom half of the inning when Richard Delong scored on Scott NesSmith's grounder, making it 3-1.

In the seventh CCHS added three insurance runs, all coming with two outs, as Rashad Snell, Dewayne Owens and Tyler Walker crossed home. Walker knocked in Snell and Owens, and then came home on Malone's double making it 6-1.

Walker retired all three batters in the bottom of the frame as the Bulldogs swept LAMP.

"These guys have come so far," Coach Chris Young said. "They never gave up and they have grown so much. They might not be the most talented team we have ever had, but they have come together as a team better than anyone."

In the opener Clarke County's defense gave the pitcher his best friend, the double-play, to snuff out a Tiger rally in the final inning, preserving the 5-2 win.

LAMP had a runner at second base when the batter hit the ball to keystone sacker Justin Robinson. Robinson fired the ball over to first baseman Terrance Frazier. The runner waited to make his break and Frazier threw back to Robinson completing the double play.

Malone got the win as he pitched all seven innings. He gave up seven hits and struck out seven. He only walked two.

He had a shaky first inning with LAMP chasing across two runs.

The Bulldogs tied in the second with runs from Josh Watford and Frazier.

Robinson knocked in Cross and Love in the third inning to increase the lead to 4-2.

Malone homered in the fourth, making the score 5-2.

Malone had a solo homer. Robinson had a hit and two RBI. Owens also had a hit and an RBI. Cross and DeAndre Love had a hit. Walker had an RBI.

This Friday the Bulldogs (13-23) host Geneva (26-7) with the winner advancing to play the winner of the Washington County-Gordo game.

Game times are 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
