Lady Gators headed to state tournament
In the first game CPS won 9-6. Kay Kay Grocholl pitched all seven innings, allowed eight hits and struck out four in getting the win. Haley Hill was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Katelyn Dunagan went 2-for-4. Stephanie Sales was 2- for-3. Grocholl went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Jessica McKinley and Tess Ackerman each went 1-for- 3. In the second game Clarke Prep won 8-2. Julia Thomas and Ashley Gavin each went 2-for-2. Ackerman went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Hill was 1-for-4 with two RBI. McKinnley went 1-for-1 and drew three walks. Dunagan and Sales each went 1- for-3. The Lady Gators finished the regular season with a 23-16 record and will be the number seven seed. They will play the 2- seed Lee-Scott at 11:30. The winner will play the winner of the Faith-Macon-East game at 3 p.m. The losers meet at 1 p.m. Other area teams are also in the state tourney in different classes. In Class A South Choctaw plays Open Door at 11:30. The Jackson Academy Lady Eagles are the 4-seed in Class AA and will play 5-seed Marengo at 10 a.m. Patrician is the 2-seed and will play Kingwood at 11:30 a.m.
The results from the CPS games will be in next week's Democrat.
