Area baseball dominating

The area is going full swing in the AHSAA baseball playoffs with five teams still playing, advancing to the third round.

In Class 4A the Jackson Aggies, ranked number one for several weeks during the regular season, swept St. James, the defending state champ, 5-0 and 10-6 to earn a date at home against Trinity this Friday.

John Luke Jacobs tossed a complete game shut-out in the opener with 13 strikeouts. He also went 3- for-4 at the plate.

In the second game Jeremy Reeves was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Jamie Eckstein picked up the win.

Jacobs was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, Kent Myer and William Taylor each added two hits.

The Aggies (26-9) play at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Spec McCants Field.

In 3A both teams representing Area 1, Washington County and Clarke County, are still battling for a trip to Montgomery.

The Chatom Bulldogs swept Montgomery Academy 9-2 and 9-5 in Chatom.

Drake Warr got the win in the opener.

Matt Jackson went 4-for-4 with two homers, three runs and five RBI to pace the team at the plate. Kyle Dees and Drew Taylor each had two hits.

Taylor earned the win in game two as he came on to pitch in the fifth inning. The score was tied and he allowed just one hit as Chatom rallied for the win.

Zach Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Warr had an RBI-single and scored twice.

WCHS (18-12) travels to Gordo to take on the Green Wave.

The Clarke County Bulldogs swept LAMP in their series 5-2 and 6-1 in Grove Hill.

Robert Malone scattered seven hits and fanned seven to pace the Bulldogs in game one.

He also had a solo homer. Dewayne Owens and Justin Robinson both had a hit and a pair of RBI.

In the nightcap Tyler Walker, after catching the first game, came on and allowed six hits in seven innings to get the win.

Hunter Cross had a 2-run homer and Walker had two RBI. Robinson and Malone each had a hit and an RBI.

The Bulldogs (13-23) host Geneva this Friday in Grove Hill.

The Leroy Bears, ranked number two in Class 2A, swept Houston County 13-3 and 10-3 to continue their run.

Taylor White went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Chris Weaver had a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the first game.

Brandon Jones allowed just five hits.

In game two Clint Mosley gave up two hits in five innings and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brittan Schultz and Grant Brown each had two hits and two RBI.

The Bears (31-7) travel to Skipperville to play G.W. Long Friday.

The last team still alive in the area is Millry in Class 1A as they sent J.U. Blacksher packing 11-6 and 6-3 in Millry.

Hunter Martin got the win in the opener on the mound as he allowed four runs on five hits.

In the two games Martin drove in two runs, Colby Myers had three hits and five RBI. Taylor Owens added three hits and two RBI, Dylan Whitsett had two hits and an RBI.

Millry (15-21) host Brantley this Friday.

All of the third round series are best 2-of-3 series.
