Retirees final meeting set

The final meeting for the 2006- 2007 program year of the Clarke County Education Retirees Association will be Thursday, (today), May 17 at 11:45 a.m. at Ryan's in Thomasville. The program will be presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Hostesses will be Diane Downey, Alberta Dixon, Arengia Knight and Lena Carol Bishop. The association, has through careful attention to the criteria, achieved the level of excellence for the 2006-2007 program year. The award was received during the annual meeting March 13 at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham. All active members, inactive members and associate members are urged to attend this final meeting.

Newton benefit set

There will be a benefit gospel singing for Wilbur Newton, Lou Gehrigs - ALS patient, Saturday, May 19 from 6 until 10 p.m. at the Clarke County High School's Sage Auditorium. The singing will feature The Revelators, 8-year-old Mallory Broadus, Good News, Final Answer and Peyton Rivers. Tickets will be available in Grove Hill at The Gift Gallery, Clarke Air, B & H Parts and Deas Insurance Agency. In Thomasville, Frames & Frocks, Sheffield Motors, Thomasville Feed & Seed; and Jackson Glass; and in Jackson, Trisha's Party Rentals, Dozier Hardware and Ace Hardware.

Opine-Tallahatta

VFD open house

An Open House and Fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 19 at the Opine-Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department. The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. Entertainment will be provided. Concessions will be sold. There will be a quilt and cake auction.

Pinocchio casting for kids

The Ballet and Theatre Arts Performing Companies of Gilbertown will be casing "No Strings Attached," a musical adaptation of the adventures of Pinocchio, during the month of May. The first audition will be held Sunday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. This musical has a large case of all ages. There are village children, school children, donkey children, Tonio Tuna and the Fishy Family and a large list of main characters. This is summer youth production as no adults will be cast. The age range should be second or third grade through high school. Everyone should be able to sing. Remember that auditions are painless and that almost everyone at BTAPC started out never having done any acting before. All you need is a willingness to work hard and the ability to follow directions. For more information call Fred Kimbrough at 251-843- 5138.

CCHS class of 1998 meets

The Clarke County High School Class of 1998 will be having a meeting

Collectors club meets

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet Monday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse. The speaker will be Steve Merideth of the University of Alabama. He is a Lithics expert. Visitors are welcome.
