Guidelines told for writing workshop

The Grove Hill Arts Council and the Grove Hill Writers Club will host a Writing Workshop Saturday, June 16. It is free to all interested writers.

Professor of English Composition and Creative Writing Steve Owen will direct the workshop in the Grove Hill United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

At 9 a.m. there will be a presentation on Writing Compelling Fiction and at 10:30 there will be a presentation on Putting Together Memoirs.

A Critique Session will follow in the afternoon. In this session, the participants will critique each other's writing, as will Professor Owen.

Here are guidelines for the Critique Session:

1. Writings submitted for the Critique Session can be fiction, memoirs, or essays.

2. Entries must not exceed 2000 words.

3. Deadline for submission is June 1.

4. Copies should be sent to Annell Gordon or to Jim Herod.

5. There will be a limited enrollment in the Critique Session. Persons are admitted on a first come basis.

6. Prior to the June 16 meeting, all participants in the critique session will receive and should read the manuscripts of all other participants.

7. There is a $10 fee for participants in the Critique Session to cover duplication costs.

Questions should be directed to Jim Herod (jherod@tds.net) or to Annell Gordon (agordon113@yahoo.com).

The Writers' Club emphasizes that the morning session is open to everyone. Only the afternoon critique session requires participation.
