A close call
Reatha Jones, 24, of Grove Hill, and 3-year-old Lillian McCall were lucky in this accident at the north bypass entrance to Grove Hill last Thursday afternoon. Jones was driving a 2000 Pontiac north on Highway 43 and started to turn into the Old 43 intersection. A Rocky Mountain Timber Co. log truck driven by James Henry Powell of Thomasville was also headed north and could not avoid the car turning ahead of it and clipped its rear end. Powell was not injured and the child did not appear to be. Jones was taken by ambulance to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released. The extent of her injuries isn't known. Grove Hill Policeman Buster Hough investigated the accident.
