Turley

John Andrew Turley, 89, of Sweet Water died May 11, 2007 at his residence.

He was born Sept. 18, 1917 in Ceres, Va. He retired from the U.S.

Air Force. During his time in service he was a

member of the 101st

Airborne Division's 502nd Parachute Infantry. He parachuted into France on D-Day. Three months later, he was engaged in a campaign at Holland, the Battle of Bastogne and one in the Rhinegold. He wore four campaign stars, the Bronze Star medal, Presidential citation with one cluster, combat infantry badge, the Bronze arrowhead and also had 20 parachute jumps, with two being in combat, to his credit.

Survivors include his wife, Jannie Milstead Turley, Sweet Water; two sons, David Turley, Mobile, Jeff Turley, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Janice (Sid) Sharma, Springhill, Tenn., Judy (Royce) Kelley, Grove Hill; four grandchildren.

A graveside service was May 14 at 10 a.m. in the Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Kevin Chelf officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Air Force. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.
