Finishing up new courthouse annex
Tuesday, Clarke County officials were working with J. C. Duke Contractors personnel to hash out the final work details on the new courthouse annex. The two-story building is virtually finished, only lacking a few details and new furnishings for the two new courtrooms, the new county commission courtroom and the offices in the annex. Work on the $3.56 million annex was started in early 2006. The new addition is connected to the old courthouse by a long hallway on both floors. Also completed are new quarters for Probate Judge Becky Presnall and employees in the old courthouse and renovations to the old jail for E-911 offices. The License Commissioner and staff moved into new quarters on the main floor of the old courthouse a few months ago.
Landscaping is complete but is being debated as to whether it is too thickly planted.
Two courtrooms are completed and only lack furnishings.
Holding cells for prisoners awaiting court proceedings are located behind the two new courtrooms.
