Grove Hill town council votes to pay share for countywide marketing plan
"In light of the steel mill coming to the Washington County, Mobile County area I think we need it," Mayor Lamar Hudson said. The plan will be funded by the five municipalities in the county as well as the county. Grove Hill's portion is $2,500. Utilities Council members approved making rate changes through a resolution rather than through an ordinance. A resolution was approved after that, increasing residential sewer connections to $250 and commercial connections to $325. The purchase of a street sweeper and vacuum attachment was approved. The equipment will be purchased from Sansun Equipment. The sweeper will cost the town $123,050 and the vacuum will be an additional $5,664. Council member Terry Stifflemire asked why the town had not advertised for utility employees. Mayor Hudson told him the office staff had been busy reporting to the IRS. "Well, we need to make it a priority," Stifflemire replied. Committee appointments Dale Harris and Dr. R.D. Neal were reappointed to the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Board. Jean Daffin and Pat Williams were reappointed to the Grove Hill Library Board. Ruth Williamson, Suzanne Cox, Pat Williams and Benji Elmore were reappointed to the Tree Commission. Eddie Slayton, Julia Ann Deas, Brenda McIntyre and Gary Horton were reappointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustments. Kim Kelley was appointed for the remainder of Malcolm Keen's term. Judy Graham was reappointed as supernumerary members and Gina Skipper was appointed for the remainder of Kelley's term as a supernumerary member. Walter James Robinson and Benji Elmore were reappointed to the Planning Commission. The Chamber of Commerce will appoint a representative on the commission. Lynda Malone and Judy Graham were reappointed as supernumerary members. Other business The bid for construction of the new library addition was awarded to Rush Contracting of Thomasville. Their bid was for $156,166. The purchase of three air conditioning window units was approved. Two will be used at the new concession stand at Hudson Park and one will be used at the sewer plant.
A building permit was approved for D.C. Vernon to construct a wooden shed at his home on Third Avenue.
