Regional workforce issues to be talked at June 11 meet

Workforce development and worker training has been deemed important, especially given the fact that the ThyssenKrupp steel mill has been announced for southwest Alabama.

Alabama has formed a Regional Workforce Advisory Council to give each region input into the Alabama Workforce Development System. Baldwin, Conecuh, Clarke, Escambia, Monroe and Washington counties are in Region 9.

A Region 9 Workforce Development Summit will be held on Monday June 11 at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette.

Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the summit from 9 a.m. until noon. The summit will be in the Branch Building, room B-111.

The major points of discussion for summit are as follows:

+ Determine ways that we can bridge the gap between business and workforce providers.

+ Discuss our challenges for Region 9 workforce development.

+ Divide into small discussion groups, and begin to work on challenges.

Al Etheridge is the coordinator for Region 9. E-mail him at aetheridge1@bellsouth.net or call him at 251-230-0602.
