Class of 1962

reunion set

The Clarke County High School Class of 1962 will have a class reunion Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at Scotch Station Park located on the Asbury Road in Whatley. All class members and teachers are invited to attend. A meal will be served at 5 p.m. ($20 per person). Contact Jerry Hare at 334-636-4774 for details.

Mannie B. Johns

board meets

The Mannie B. Johns Area YPD Executive Board meeting will be Friday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wilson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Grove Hill. Following the business session, the seniors of 2007 and the recipient of the Area Scholarship will be named and honored with a graduation reception in the fellowship hall. Ms. Regina Philen will be the guest speaker. She is employed by the Monroe County School system. She is a native of Fulton. Come out and support these talented and deserving students. Vanesta Ambrose, local YPD Director, Annye Owens, area YPD Director and Rev. Levi Marshall is the pastor.

CCHS Class

of 1998 meets

NAACP meets

Clarke County National Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will meet Sunday, June 10 at 5 p.m. All members are asked to please be present at both meetings as plans will be discussed for the Juneteenth celebration to be held Saturday, June 16. Rev. W.T. Lesueur is the president.

VFW Post retires flags

The VFW Post 5106 and its ladies auxiliary will hold a flag retirement ceremony at the post at 555 Old Highway 5 South

Thursday, June 13 at 10 a.m. Anyone that has a dirty or torn flag may bring them by the post that day or you can leave them in the flag drop at the post. The public is invited to this ceremony at 10 a.m.

of '78 meets

There will be a Clarke County High School Class of 1978 reunion meeting Friday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse.

Juneteenth

celebration set

Juneteenth Celebration will be

Saturday, June 16 at the Grove Hill City Park. Accessory booths and activities will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. A night service and singing will begin at 7 p.m. at the Wilson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Grove Hill. Rev. Kenneth Glasgow will be the guest speaker. The featured singers will be Voices In Harmony of Grove Hill, Annointed Angels and Jackson Male Chorus, both groups of Jackson. The celebration will be sponsored by the Clarke County NAACP

Free writing workshop

The Grove Hill Arts Council will present a free writing workshop

Saturday, June 16 at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. The workshop will be conducted by Professor Steve Owen. Writing Fiction will be presented at 9 a.m. and Writing Memoirs will be presented at 10:30 a.m. There is a critique session in the afternoon for those who submit stories. Public Library launches

reading program Grove Hill Public Library launches its summer reading program. Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to join "Get a Clue @ Your Library" at the Grove Hill Public Library. The 2007 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through 5th grade, with programs, prize drawings. story hours, a reading club, and more. Program dates are June 20, June 27, July 18, and July 25. Times will be as follows for students completing Pre-K and Kindergarten 12:30-1:30, 1st and 2nd grades 1:45-2:45, and 3rd-5th grades will meet from 3-4. Students can register anytime at the library before June 20th. All programs are free of charge.

CHS Class

of 1967 meets

The Coffeeville High School Class of 1967 will celebrate its 40th year reunion Saturday, June 30 at 6 p.m. at the school. Music fest at

Coffeeville set

Coffeeville Music Festival will be held Saturday, July 7 on the property of Dr. Edwina Hart's located at 21370 Highway 69 South in Coffeeville. Local singers will be as follows: gospel from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Legendary Taylor Sisters, Coffeeville's Best Sandy Dunagan and Chandra Deas, Andre Creighton and Family Unity, Janice Malone and Mt. Zion's Praise Team and many more. There will be a blues concert at 6 p.m. featuring Steve Perry plus Pat Ramsey and the Blues Disciples. There will be food vendors on site. Arts and crafts booths will be available, games and activities for children until 5 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy. Tickets are $20 in advance/$25 at the gate. PJC reunion set

The Patrick-Jones-Carstarphen Family Reunion will be held Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22 at the Jackson Assembly House. Family reunion planned
