Man who successfully evaded local lawmen caught in Texas

A fugitive that Clarke and Choctaw County lawmen have been trying to apprehend for nearly a year now was arrested in Texas last week.

According to Clarke County Sheriff's Department's Chief Investigator Ron Baggett, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force had adopted the case of Gregory Curtis Gainer.

Gainer was wanted in Clarke County on charges of probation violation, possession of controlled substance and assault, second degree.

Last summer when lawmen attempted to arrest Gainer, he forced the driver of the vehicle he was in to leave a road block, injuring an officer and as he fled the vehicle on foot he dropped a bag of Lortab pills.

Last week lawmen in Texas received a tip that a murder suspect they were looking for was under a bridge in Brownsville, Texas.

As they approached the bridge Gainer ran out and was soon apprehended. He was returned to Clarke County and remains in the Clarke County Jail.
