Jackson man gets 38 years for his part in robbing Royal Inn motel A jury found Emmanuel Thomas guilty of several charges following a circuit court trial in April. Tuesday, Circuit Judge Stuart DuBose sentenced Thomas to 28 years on a first degree robbery conviction and 10 years on the second degree assault conviction. The sentences are to run consecutively for a total of 38 years. In addition, he received six months each for criminal mischief and resisting arrest convictions. Those are to run concurrently with the other sentences. In addition, he was ordered to pay money into the crime victims fund. Thomas and Bruce Williams, also of Jackson, were accused of robbing the Royal Inn in Jackson in May 2006. Courtroom testimony revealed that Williams hit the hotel owner, Hamukh Gandhi, in the head with a hammer while Thomas grabbed the cash register. Later that day, after the pair was apprehended, Thomas kicked the glass out of the back window of a patrol car as he was being transported to the Clarke County Jail. Bruce Williams has not yet been tried for his part in the robbery.
Several other sentences and cases were heard by Judge DuBose and Judge Thomas Baxter Tuesday.
