Drug arrests made in Whatley Clarke County sheriff's deputies made several drug arrests in Whatley early this week and confiscated nearly $1,000 as well as some drugs and paraphernalia. On Monday CCSD Chief Investgator Ron Baggett, DA Investigator Don Lolley and agents from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board were questioning several men in the Limrock Road community when they noticed Anthony Maurice Pendleton trying to take something out of his pockets. When Pendleton moved they found where he had dropped a bag of narcotics. Pendleton was charged with possession of marijuana, first degree and possession of a controlled substance. On Tuesday Sheriff Bobby Moore, Chief Deputy Vergil Chapman, Lieutenant Larry Gene Sheffield and Investigator Baggett apprehended Bernard Pendleton and Joshua Venzula Lynum after receiving a tip the two were carrying marijuana. Grove Hill Police Chief Leo Frazier was transporting Pendleton to the Clarke County Jail when Pendleton said he needed to spit out his tobacco. Frazier told him he would have to wait until he got to the jail. When they arrived at the jail Pendleton spit out a green leafy substance in a plastic bag, which appeared to be marijuana. Chapman said Pendleton told him, "I love it. There's no use lying about it. They need to make it legal, I love it." Lynum was charged with possession of marijuana, first degree and Pendleton was charged with possession of marijuana, second degree. Other arrests booked through the Clarke County Jail over the past week include: Joseph Arthur Autry, DUI, DWLS, violation of prohibition, attempt to evade police, no seat belt, speeding, arrested by Coffeeville Police Dept. Bobby Ray Bell, possession of controlled substance, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. Darrion Ogwin Bernard, child support, court costs, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. Floyd Damario Bernard, probation revocation, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. Nicholas Lee Bethea, DUI, violation of prohibition law, arrested by Thomasville Police Dept. Lindy Brown, failure to pay, child support/court costs, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. Victor Burroughs, possession of marijuana, first degree, speeding, arrested by Thomasville Police Dept. Sherry Denise Calhoun, two counts failure to appear in traffic court, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. Thomas Frederick Campbell, DUI, driving on wrong side of road, arrested by Alabama State Troopers. Daniel Eugene Chapman, possession of marijuana, second degree, driving while license revoked, arrested by Grove Hill Police Dept. Dwight Chapman, court cost, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept. David Earl Clay Jr., DUI, speeding, unlawful possession of alcohol, arrested by Grove Hill Police Dept. Vickie Davis, bad checks, arrested by Clarke County Sheriff's Dept.
